Alex & Sierra are amazing. The first time I saw them on X Factor (US), I just fell in love with their music and them as a couple. They exude a fairytale love. The looks they give each other are intoxicating. I am a closet romantic, what can I say.
I support the arts, I love the arts – I am artsy! What can I say, while I was working in the business world, I was always craving something else, “what was missing?” I would ask myself? As it turned out, it was my artistic side that was not being fueled.
Working with artistic types is so different. So much passion for what they do, in fact I have so much passion for what I do (or am trying to do) now.
For our annual guys weekend away, this year we decided to go to Coachella Valley Music Festival in Palm Springs, California – and it was hot, hot, hot, it reached 107 degrees Farenheit! This place was incredible, I don’t know how many people went but I would guess at over 80,000 and the place was organized so well. There must have been over 60 bands playing over the 3 days with a very diverse range of music from EDM to rock, hip hop and rap. There really was something for everybody.
I was raised to believe that anything is possible, the sky is the limit. My parents always believed that I could achieve whatever I wanted provided I set my mind to it.
This type of encouragement was great as a kid – parents having so much faith in their child. Although sometimes they could not understand why I did not get straight “As” in school (I was a late bloomer!). I found that with this upbringing I set the bar high as I believed it was achievable with hard work and a bit of luck.
Music is something that everybody can appreciate and enjoy – the universal language (so much better than math!).
With a lot going on in my life right now I find myself listening to music all the time and finding new meaning in the songs. My love of music has always been a huge part of my life growing up, the first thing I used to do when coming home from school and then work was turn on the radio or play some CDs (really showing my age now!). I used to just listen to the music but now I find myself really hearing, feeling and relating to the lyrics – hence the quote above by Frank Ocean.
Next in my life experiences my friend suggested we go to the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas. the largest event in North America with approximately 350,000 people attending a 3 day electronic dance music carnival over 3 nights (Friday to Sunday starting around 7pm and ending at 6.30am the next morning).
My first acting class seemed ok, until the teacher told us to prepare a song for our next class. We were to discuss the meaning, emotions associated with it, how we relate and then sing a few lines. Sounds easy for some, but not for me as I can’t put a tune together even if I tried.
Anyway I chose my favorite song at the time “Somebody That I Used To Know”.
